The Exciting Future of the Museum

After concluding my internship with the Health Museum, I believe I maximized the potential opportunity the museum provided and created a lasting impact on the community through multiple means. Most of this information was summarized in my conclusive pdf document that I will link to the end of this blog post.

First, the AR demo as stated in my previous museum post went fairly well. Although only three staff members attended the self-guided walkthrough, the CEO of the museum got the opportunity to test my work. In the end, I received an abundance of feedback from the staff and even guests who were excited to try the experience. This led to an optimistic talk with the CEO regarding the bright future of this internship project. He was adamant about getting this project "off the intern shelf" and quickly installing the idea into the museum with a proper budget and support from the museum executives. As the final week came to an end, I wrapped up the project in a neat bow with the one-pager linked below this post. One final meeting allowed me to explain my vision and hopes for the museum to continue the augmented reality installment to upgrade the exhibits to be a more interactive experience through the use of technology. My colleagues gave their final opinions and were extremely excited about the potential our project had to give life to the aged museum exhibits.

Secondly, I have implemented a QR code system to provide puzzle answers and partially track the guest experience. By introducing this system, the museum staff can easily track guest experiences by seeing the optimal places for QR codes as well as foot traffic by each day. They have extensive control over where the QR codes are located and how they look. This was the only part of my project that was fully implemented prior to finishing the internship. They have used the data to help influence decisions on how to maximize visitor engagement and provide ease of access to brainteaser solutions.

All in all, I am so grateful for the opportunity Professor Leland has provided me and my fellow interns. Working with the museum staff was extremely gratifying as every day I learned something new from the operations behind the scenes of a museum to the general history of The Health Museum. I recently received word that they have plans and funding to utilize my Augmented Reality Demo in their exhibit and use my research as a framework for creating and displaying the information. I am optimistic to see the progress they make in optimizing the distribution of health information through a new medium. I look forward to my next visit to The Health Museum.
