Solving Problems

Lately, The Health Museum has encountered many recent technology problems in the exhibits. From computers blatantly shutting down to audio equipment malfunctions, I worked with John, another intern, to attempt to troubleshoot these problems. I managed to fully fix one of the laptops through a graphics driver update but I was unable to fix the other computer. After hours of testing the audio equipment, we managed to find the right combination that makes the system work. My work was monitored by one of the staff members.

Another aspect of the museum that I am asked about is the brain teasers in the center area. Each puzzle has its own unique solution and I was determined to learn all of them this past week. The most difficult puzzle I encountered was one with two rings that are connected by one string. The aim of the game is to move one ring from one side of the string to touch the other ring on the other side of the string. After many attempts, I managed to find a solution and aid any guests who ask if I can solve it. Another fun one to explain is the balancing nail trick which 6 nails that balance on the head of one. It always lightens my day when a guest looks with awe at the solutions to these puzzles.

Finally, most of my week required my assistance with the summer camp doing more clean-up and set-up for experiments surrounding DNA and forensic science.

Tracing back to a week prior, I believe I have a solution to the difficulty of adding vinyl lettering. Using a laser level or projector to display the image on the wall and then lining up the physical letters would make the process easier. I have yet to introduce this idea to Becky, but I plan on notifying her of this methodology.
